The Family Coach Training Approach - OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our approach is a proven and practical model that coaching professionals use, which improve and transform the parent-child or parent-teen relationship. It is based on the roots and synthesis of life coaching, positive psychology, Choice Theory, child and adolescent development, parent education and mentoring.
- As professionals, we work with our parent, family and teen clients to help them examine their own core beliefs and respect their beliefs. Parents learn to understand and guide young people as they map their goals, values, beliefs and profession.Families reconnect and hope and peace is established through this model in record time.
- Instead of teaching how to manage and control teens, our model helps us as adults appreciate the unique perspective of teens and young adults and to express respect, understanding, and support for who they are right now. This creates sustainable change.
- Our Certified Family Coaches teach and coach parents in the Parent as Coach® Approach, which does not dictate how to grow up; instead, the parent learns how to guide young people to their own positive decisions, solutions, inherent gifts, and the path to a meaningful and purposeful life.The family system is forever improved.

Why Was This Unique Coaching Model Created?
Out of necessity for one parent.
- Founder and coach Diana Sterling discovered that previous ways of parenting were woefully inadequate as her child matured into a teen.
- This everyday parent, trained as a professional coach, found that what worked best in her personal relationship to her teenage son were the skills and processes she used professionally with her adult clients.
- Coming from her deep interest in wanting to help her teen and other young people grow into happy and productive adults, Diana developed a unique professional coaching model using Parent as Coach and the Family Coach Training for herself and for those who serve children, teenagers, young adults and parents everywhere.
- Diana went on to create a model for parents to assist their young adults. However it was the increase demand from other professionals worldwide to learn what was working with Diana’s unique coaching approach, both personally and professionally. Her products and programs for professionals are based around The Parent as Coach® Approach and The Advanced Coaching Course, the flagship program for a comprehensive and rigorous training for professional coaches, therapists, doctors, educators, social workers, and anyone serving teens, young people, parents and families.
- Our models can be adapted to children, or parents of children as well, when you take the core techniques and create new applications for this population. Our students are wildly successful when their own creativity is applied to their younger clients with our coaching models.

- Teens do not want or need adults who tell them exactly how, what, and where to do this, that, and the other thing.There is enough evidence to support that young people today will not tolerate outdated dictatorial parenting. Their anger, sadness and violence is proof.
